about me

My name is Marisa, and I love to bake!

I started baking because I felt like I didn't have enough going on and I wanted to try something new. So that year on Father's Day, I baked my first baked good: chocolate chip cookies! I was hooked, and fun fact: to this day, that is still my go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe.

At first, I started just baking to create fun and simple treats that I could eat and share with others. Of course, I still bake to do that but now I also bake and try to understand the process of baking/the science behind it. Later on when I would look through cookbooks, I absolutely loved reading their stories of how they came to be a pastry chef and about the ingredients they used. It's fascinating to learn about how the ingredients interact with each other and what they do to the finished product. In order to be a good baker, you need to understand the value of each ingredient and the science behind the process.

On this blog, my goal is to inspire you to bake from scratch at home and have fun with it. Bake for yourself and for others because you can make someone's day by giving them a batch of homemade cookies. So let's get baking!

Mei Mei, which means 'little sister' in Mandarin, is a people-loving Havanese dog who loves belly rubs and, of course, food. One moment she can be peacefully sleeping in her bed, and the next she can be sprinting to the door to greet someone. She is scared of thunderstorms so when she hears thunder she walks over to and sits in strange places, such as the bathroom. She also tends to do things in her sleep like shake or stick her tongue out. I like to think that when she is sticking her tongue out, she is dreaming of food!
